I was very impressed with how readable and helpful this book was. I expected a "stuffy, computer-ese" type book, but the step-by-step instructions were easy to understand, interesting to read, and helpful to starting and maintaining a website.

This is an easy to read, helpful book of information for both the beginner and seasoned website owner. The author's past experience lets the reader gain knowledge from tried and true practices. Not only can one learn about marketing tactics, but being able to get the most of their potential clicks through search engine optimization. The information is clear, concise and easy to understand, and although some things might seem obvious, they are integral to incorporate into one's whole package with doing business online. Either doing it on your own, or hiring someone to build and maintain your website, this is a must read.

I am learning HTML5/JavaScript and this book helped me get into what I thought were some advanced APIs surprisingly quickly. One thing I really appreciated is how the authors made a concerted effort to stay within the HTML5 specification whenever possible, and only brought in external libraries if necessary. For instance, when introducing an API, the authors give simple HTML5 or JavaScript code to test whether a browser supports that feature. In contrast, another book I bought brings in the Modernizr library to detect features, which annoyed me. My only caveat for this book is that my 2010 version has no useful chapter on WebGL. But this could be because I have an older version.

This is a great book that focuses on how to build a successful website. It takes you through each step of the way from registering your domain name to maintaining an up and running website. This book is beneficial not only to the beginner but also to the more advanced internet user. It gives a lot of good advice and ideas from the author who has experienced developing a website first hand. I think everyone interested in developing a winning website should read this book. John Calascione has proven that it works by his astounding success in the world of internet marketing.
